DeBroff’s non-mom specific publications include The Public Interest Job Search Guide, published yearly by Harvard Law School, and The Great Firm Escape, a book co-authored with fellow lawyers from Harvard Law School’s Office of Public Interest Advising, which DeBroff founded in 1990. While at Harvard, from 1990 to 1999, DeBroff helped launch a generation of law students into public interest work by heading an office staffed by seasoned public interest attorneys, which served as a model for other law schools across the nation. In 1997, The American Lawyer recognized DeBroff for her entrepreneurial contribution to law with an in depth profile in their issue on the Top Forty Lawyers Under Forty. Massachusetts Lawyers Weekly also chose her as one of the "Top Ten Lawyers of 1998" and DeBroff garnered extensive coverage for her work at Harvard by the media—from National Public Radio to the National Law Journal to The Wall Street Journal and the Boston Globe. DeBroff’s singular influence in the field of public interest law was reaffirmed recently when two of her social entrepreneurs and proteges were named MacArthur Genius Fellows, and the MacArthur Foundation invited her to serve as a nominator in future years.
DeBroff holds a B.A. in Psychology and Comparative Literature from Brown University, magna cum laude and Phi Beta Kappa; and a J.D. from Georgetown University, magna cum laude. She lives in Newton, MA with her husband and two children, ages 13 and 14.
